Ford sells its F-150s as light duty trucks, but these models have gained popularity due to its heavy towing capacity. These have already seen thirteen generations and ranks at the top among the best sellers in the US. The automaker is set to add another trim. This so called 2017 Ford F-150 Platinum should be released somewhere in 2017.
2017 Ford F-150 Platinum: Engine and Fuel Economy
The Platinum trim of Ford F-150 is expected to come with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine capable of delivering 385 HP of power and 253 lb-ft of torque. Another engine option will be available in the form of a 5.0-liter V-8 engine. This will be capable of delivering higher torque and horsepower, but they haven’t released the exact figures yet.
Expect all engine versions to be mated with a new 10-speed automatic transmission system. The pickup, with its powertrain, will reach a top speed of 106 mph while it will be capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under 6.3 seconds.
The 2016 F-150 Platinum had an EPA rating of around 15 mpg in city and 22 mpg on the highway. Expect Ford F-150 Platinum 2017 version to have a similar range of mileage or improve on those numbers, mostly because of the new gearbox.
The 2016 Platinum was priced at $52,515. On the other hand, the 2017 Ford F-150 Platinum can be expected to be marketed with a slightly higher price tag. In this range, this pickup is expected to face competition from the higher end models of Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra.
Exterior and Interior Changes
Ford has maintained the muscular look that it imparts to its F-150 pickups. The front bumpers are bigger this time with chrome finish. Front grille sports a square-mesh design with three-bar chrome accent and satin-finish. Also, its tailgate can be power-locked and is remotely accessible.
Side mirrors can be power folded and are heated. The driver side mirror has an auto-dimming facility. Headlamps and tail lamps come with LED fittings with Quad-Beam technology. Also, expect two set of hooks at the front and back of this pickup meant for towing.
The carmaker is proudly advertising its 110-volt/400 watt powered inverter instrument panel that the automaker has put in 2017 Ford F-150 Platinum. Steering wheels are leather wrapped to allow enhanced driver grip and are heated. Front seats will have both heating and cooling options.
The instrument cluster just behind the steering wheel comes with an 8-inch productivity screen that displays a host of information ranging from fuel economy to towing capacity. It is installed with Ford’s “MyView” technology that allows the driver to select from 6 major display options.
Ford has installed its new pickup vehicle with a host of high-tech technical features. The vehicle is meant for off road driving as well and comes with four-wheel anti-lock brakes with advanced traction control. This automatically detects wheel slip and provides added power to individual wheels to maintain stability.
Also, the 2017 F-150 Platinum is equipped with inflatable safety belts in the second row along with advanced curve control, cruise control and a blind-spot monitoring system. It also boasts of a perimeter anti-theft alarm along with keyless entry keypad on the driver’s side.
