With Ford F-250 Diesel and Ram 2500 HD already ruling the market and Chevrolet Silverado on the way, GMC was unlikely to hold back its new pickup and lose the medium-duty vehicle market to them. These might be a suggestion of a more powerful powertrain inside with promising 32,000 Lbs. of towing capacity. Of course, this may see GMC Sierra cross the $55,000 price mark.

Ford and Ram outclass GMC in this section. The automaker may push for higher power engines for its new 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD, but as of now, it is set to come in two versions.
- The standard model will come with a 6.0-liter V-8 engine revving an output power of 360 HP at 5,400 rpm and delivering an output torque of around 380 lb-ft at 4,200 rpm.
- Customers will have the option to go for a higher version. This will feature a 6.6-liter V8 engine with GMC’s Duramax turbodiesel engine. It will generate 397 HP of power and 765 lb-ft of torque.
Certainly, figures are much less than Ford’s 860 lb-ft marks. But, where GMC expects to nose ahead is its EPA rating. Fuel consumption is expected to be way better than Ford and Ram. The standard engine may be combined with a six-speed automatic while the higher range will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission system.
All the regular features mandatory for this category are expected to be present. The 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD is set to be installed with a rear cargo monitoring system, forward collision warning system, adaptive cruise control, electronic stability control, tilt control and advanced traction control.
GMC will look to target the urban crowd like its competitors due to the growing popularity of pickups and may install lane departure warning system, and park assist features as well.
