The 2017 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X is something that many pickup enthusiasts are waiting for. The Japanese manufacturer has been trying to gain a solid foothold in this segment but they haven’t been able to do much unlike Toyota. With this new Frontier Pro-4X trim, they look to change all that and make a mark when it releases late next year.
2017 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X: Changes and Features
Modifications are expected in this model on the whole and there might be a few edgy changes to the exteriors too. Nissan will give this truck a completely new front fascia. This will bring a much more dynamic look added to it much like the Pathfinder. There are rumors that this model will have daytime LEDs as add-ons from its entry-level trims and will be available all through the trims.
This 2017 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X will come with two different bed lengths – 5.0 and 6.1 feet variants although the latter may turn out to be a more popular choice. The bed design will incorporate Utility track cargo carrying system, a first in its segment.
Also, this model will come with UV resistant bed-liner assists. This will protect the truck from scratches, rust, scraping and any other problem which are common aftermaths of daily use.
This pickup comes as a 5-seater high on luxury and utility. Graphite leather and carbon fiber will adorn most of the interior contours. The driver will find sensor dials measuring oil and boost pressure and even coolant temperatures right on the dashboard.
Rockford Fosgate premium audio systems coupled with a 5.8-inch touchscreen give this car a completely new level of passenger luxury and infotainment.
Cabin or cab configurations remain nearly the same although larger dimensions are rumored. The fold-down rear jump seats have its own loyal customer following; increased dimensions will erase previous complaints of low headroom and legroom for rear seat passengers. This higher trim includes a sunroof, crossbars, heated mirrors and a roof rack to provide for umpteen driver experiences.
This is where Nissan is rumored to try and stamp out its competitors; making this model more driver-friendly both on regular driving and towing loads on difficult terrains. Rumored specs are as follows:
- Engine Types – 2.8 L Inline 4 Cummins/ 4.0 L V6
- Engine Output – 261 HP and 300 lb-ft/ Unspecified
- Fuel Economy – 15/21/17 mpg [City/Highway/Combined]
- Towing Capacity – 6500 pounds+ [Expected]
What surprises the most is that these figures are those of a mid-size compact pick-up truck. Whether the V6 will be added to the production lineup is a worth watching out for but the Cummins 2.8 L 4-cylinder option can do most of the job quite effortlessly. With a 0 to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds, this pickup is fast and powerful too given its more than handsome lugging capacity.
- Transmission – 6 Speed Manual and 8-Speed Auto
Whether the 8 Speed Auto will be included in the line-up is based completely on rumors. However, a brand new suspension is expected to be mated with this 2017 Frontier Pro-4X to give it better driveability at all speeds.
Price and Arrival
Hill descent controls, turbo lugging, All-Terrain tires make this 2017 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X one of the best upcoming compact pickups. And at a low $30,000 pricing, it does look to leave quite a mark in the market. The amazing vehicle is rumored to arrive early next year, likely at the upcoming 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
