General Motors is known for working very hard and bringing out new versions of their popular trucks. One of the names being considered is the redesigned Chevy Silverado 1500. If rumors are believed to be true then the completely redesigned and all-new 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 may be seen anytime soon.
2018 Chevy Silverado 1500: Rivals and Power
American truck market is an extremely competitive one. Especially, if medium sized to full sized trucks are considered, Americans may have very fewer choices but the options are full of potential and choosing any one is extremely hard. Surprisingly, or maybe not, choices are available from the top three American brands. Locking horns with this 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500, we can expect to see some Ford F-150s and some Dodge Rams which are equally good and can prove to be extremely competitive. Expect a close fight between these three and once the latest versions of all three comes out, a winner can be decided.
General Motors really have some great competition. Their 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine installed inside this expected 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 is a powerful reply to Ford F-150’s EcoBoost units and Dodge Ram’s EcoDiesel units. This 5.3L V8 can push out as much as 355 HP along with 383 lb. ft. of torque.
Comparing with Ford’s engine, Silverado 1500’s engine has a 30 HP upper hand while it has higher acceleration than Dodge’s engine.
Interior and Exterior Redesign
Expect to see some real high tech stuffs here inside the cabin. Things have been ripped straight from the future. First off, expect a lot of USB ports which would come in handy nowadays. This new 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 also boasts of a 4G LTE powered Wi-Fi connection from none other than OnStar 4G running inside its cabin. The center console is large and the large dials have been aesthetically carved out to give a pleasing demeanor to its looks.
Seats have been made even more luxurious. You can quite assuredly expect premium upholstery like top notch leather on it. Ride quality is quite refined and is as per customer’s reviews and demands.
As the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is still under speculation nothing much can be predicted regarding its body styling and exterior design. However features like LED lighting facility and chrome linings on mirrors and door handles to be present. The truck will no doubt show off its stylish curves, and body colored bumpers can be expected.
Price Range and Trims
Take a look at estimations regarding pricing aspects of this expected 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 first. Since General Motors are looking forward to keep this truck in its usual competitive attire, pricing can be expected to be usual. Experts are predicting its price tag to stay at the same level as is 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500’s. This said the exact figures can be expected to hover somewhere around $30,000 for this expected 2018 Silverado 1500. This figure is no doubt competitive but fear not, the presence of new updates and latest features can be assuredly present.
However, if to add a few more features to the cart, like chrome plated large 20 inch wheels along with AWD, as well as automatic heating and cooling seats and safety controls, then figures somewhere near about $50,000 can be expected. This price too, is extremely competitive, considering the quality of features being provided.
Along with the interior of the new 2018 Silverado the crew cabs need to have air for the rear seating passengers.
Along with the amenities for the rear passengers they also need to put the automatic shifter is the floor. Chevy seems to be the only truck maker that doesn’t
Do not take shifter from the steering column!!
Why not?
I’ll second that,” WHY NOT”?
Because it is perfect there. Why ruin all the space in the center with a stupid shifter? Look how terrible it works in the Ford. Leave it on the column.
i agree, it is very convenient there with the tow/ haul the switch easily available, and the manual gear override, and OUT OF THE WAY of the floor area. A truck IS NOT a sports car. If you want a floor shifter ,, get a vett.
Yes, Put the shifter on a center mounted console. The column shifter is a pain when you are plowing snow. Give us the option to order a larger capacity gas tank. If the Max Trailer Package hasn’t been changed it should be to include the integrated brake control and towing mirrors. I was irritated when ordering my last Silverado with the Max Trailer Pack and had to order them as additional options and GM did not have an option for larger fuel tank. If you tow you use more gas/fuel One other thing that irritated me was I wanted to order the Z71 Appearance Package with the 6.2 Engine but was told it wasn’t available with the Max Trailer Package and even called GM on it, they could not give me an answer what the trim and decals had to do with towing. I have been a loyal GM owner for over 50 years now and I am seriously considering other brands this year when I order a new truck.
I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A FULL SIZE TRUCK WITH A FLOOR SHIFT SILVERADO OR GMC.
I agree 100% give an option to have a floor shift. That’s why Ford, and other do.
how about some exterior colors
Center console shifters get in the way I like the traditional column shifter and the rams nob shift. I dislike the center console one its just in the way takes up to much space.
I like the floor shift would love to see that. Also they need to put rear air for the 4 door models.
6.2 in LT DBL Cab Orange ext color, or 6.2 reg cab short bed 2WD SS model
I would like to see in the new 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC sierra 1500 pickup trucks come with a diesel engine under the hood because ram has one and know ford has one in their half ton pickup trucks
1500 Trucks are too low to the ground, why do we need to add lift kits or levelling kits, so we don’t rip off the front ends and also larger fuel tank, rear Air and heat is also necessary, Diesel engine is a must in 1500, who can afford bouncing around in a 3/4 ton Diesel all day, it seems like you’re totally forgetting about the country Gravel roads and people who need a truck not a city vehicle. I currently own eight Silverado’s and I’d like to keep it that way even though I do have 3 fords.
I would like to see every 2018 Silverado trim level switch to across the board, dash activation switch for the 4wd. The 2017 Silverado (wt and ls) floor mounted 4wd shifter is antiquated and also takes up leg room. The 2017 Colorado 4wd has a standard activation (2wd/4wd) switch in the dash, so why doesn’t the pricier Silverado have one on every trim level?
AGREED!! keep all shifters OFF THE FLOOR,, my dog would rather lay in that area
If, in fact, the “powers-that-be” read any of the suggestions which have been offered on this site, and I certainly hope they at least take them into consideration, I have to concur with a number of the suggestions, and would like to add a few of my own. I trade pickups every 2 years, and since I’m now 60, that accounts for a lot of pickups. The changes that the pickup industry as a whole has made over the past 15 years have had a huge impact on what a lot of people are now using for their primary “driver”, more and more people are choosing these good looking, fantastic driving, and very functional vehicles instead of cars, especially out here in the Midwest. Since we are using them as a primary driver, rear air is a MUST, I can’t believe it hasn’t been made available yet. I hope there is a 6.2 engine, as well as 22″ wheels on the 2018. I never thought about a floor shift, but that’s actually a pretty cool idea, hope they consider that as well.
Floor shift? “Cool idea” is not very cool when you are using a truck for a family car and you need that middle front seat for another kid. On the column works just great for THIS FAMILY man, who is also a contractor and a outdoors-man. If you want a floor shifter? get a CORVETTE…..
“I can’t plow snow with my Vette”, but I can with the Silverado,Put the shifter on the floor!
I should of said put the shifter in a center mounted console, not on the floor!
Denny, I didn’t necessarily mean to imply that I would get a floor shift, actually I wouldn’t, but for those that like that option I think it would be fine, kind of like El Camino’s of the past.
I agree DENNY, leave the shifter on the steering column, more room for passengers. I also have a vette and that’s where the floor shifter should be, not on the truck.
Need to leave the shifter on the damn collum where it belobgs and put a manual t case lever back in the floof and get rid of all the the ridiculous consoles…need more bench/split bench options and bring back manual windows door locks etc. Im 29 and honna be the last generation to grow up with real trucks.
Gm really need to “update” they need rear climate vents and cup holders on the back of center console, keyless entry, bed lights with to access from bed…..panoramic roof, and 360 camera. Come on my Nissan Rogue has it smh…. every other truck has these features… slackin gm 🙁
GM really needs to add Dual Injection to it’s engines. Both Direct and Multi-Port Injection, would deal with the carbon build up problems of Direct Injection. Ford has added it to all it’s 18′ truck engines, it also adds more power. If GM wants to put a console gear selector option, fine, but retain the column mounted shifter. I would like to see the return of a velour type material for the cloth seats, with some on the doors like the older models had, to break up all that plastic and add some class.
Also retain some 16” or 17” Aluminum wheels with a nice deep dish design. Some of us actually go off road, and larger tires ride smoother, protect the wheel, have better traction, are less expensive, and do better in cold snowy weather.
I love the idea of factory installed floor shifters in Silverado 1500. Each previous argument against the idea, exposes safety issues not being observed, by the opposition.
Ok, upon further consideration, I’d prefer the shifter in the future GM trucks to offer a center console mounted shifter. Actually I would also like a hood design that didn’t allow rain to seep into the engine compartment. I like to keep my truck clean inside and outside and I think a tighter sealed engine compartment would also promote engine efficiency.
Bring back the chevy squarebody pickups any range from late 70’s to early 80’s style That would own the pickup market for sure for appearance and would considerably lower cost With that look and lower cost chevy would overtake the pickup market without a doubt. Please consider
Regular Cab with short bed ( standard ) with 6.2 Liters, automatic but not 5.3 Liters….!!
Be nice to put Wing Windows back in in manual air vents with the way it is now you don’t get enough air unless you have the air conditioner on and a nice days you don’t need no air he just needs to pull their Vans out or open the wing windows
Chevy’s 5.3L only has 30hp over Ford’s small 2.7L EcoBoost. Ford’s 5.0L has 30 hp more and their 3.5L EcoBoost has 20hp more and both of them have more torque (4 and 87 ft/lbs more respectively). They also failed to mention that the 5.7L RAM motor has 395hp and 410 ft/lb of torque. This article uses cherry picked data in a pitiful attempt to mask the fact that GM’s paltry 355hp is lagging behind the competition (not to mention Toyota’s 381hp 5.7L and Nissan’s 390hp 5.6L).
There ad campaigns railing against Ford’s aluminum body are equally asinine considering that they are also going to aluminum in 2019.
