Nissan’s Frontier pickup is currently into its second generation and has been around in the market since 2004. The recent speculations say that Nissan rolling out a new Frontier. The all-new pickup is expected to be more powerful and to have better features. The 2018 Nissan Frontier Diesel is likely to be launched with advanced techs like cruise control and blind spot monitoring system.
2018 Nissan Frontier Diesel: Styling Changes and Features
Nissan may not go for a total makeover for this new pickup, but the front fascia will be similar to the Nissan Navara. However, a few modifications are largely expected inside and out. Front grille sports a horizontal bar-mesh structure with its lower chrome receiving a slight enlargement. Headlights are trapezoidal in shape and are placed at an angle with the front grilles.
Taillight will also receive a few modifications. Fender flairs are enhanced to impart a muscular look to this pickup and the rear portion houses a backup camera. It is also set to come with in-bed cargo rails and bed extenders.
As for its interiors, Nissan may make a few noticeable changes. The pickup may feature bucket seats separated by a console, while the seats will be power adjustable and may have heating options. A steering wheel will arrive with a new design and may come with leatherette lining.
Engine Options and Transmission
The 2018 Nissan Frontier Diesel will definitely come with a Cummins powertrain. This will be a powerful and capable 2.8-liter 4-cylinder diesel. According to our sources, the oil-burner will be capable of delivering up to 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of twist. Of course, the pickup will have several non-diesel options, and possibly one more oil-burner. It’s a 3.0-liter diesel V6 engine that will produce around 230 horsepower and whopping 400 lb-ft of twist. Transmission will be 6-speed manual, while a 7-speed automatic will be available as an option.
Nissan is likely to go with similar trims as its current Frontier Series. This means that the following will be available when 2018 Nissan Frontier Diesel hits the market:
- King Cab trims will come in S and SV range
- Double Cab trims to feature S, SV and SL range
2018 Nissan Frontier Diesel: Price Range and Competition
No official reports on pricing are still available. The current Frontier is ranged at $18,290 and goes up to $25,600 for its higher end models. Expect, the 2018 Frontier Diesel to start at around $19,500 and may reach up to $28,000.
Higher end models of 2018 Nissan Frontier Diesel may face competition from Ford’s bestselling F-150 series and the Ram 1500 diesel, as well as with the Chevrolet Colorado which also boasts a 2.8-liter engine with towing capacity reaching up to 7,500 pounds.
Yes Nissan should defiantly make some changes to the Frontier lineup, and would also benefit to grab some of the mid size truck market with the 3.0-liter diesel V6 engine that will produce around 230 horsepower and whopping 400 lb-ft of twist ! I was wondering why Chevy didn’t do this yet as they have the 4cyl. Duramax diesel with the exact same HP & Torque specs. Nissan obviously copied Chevy/GMC , But they have no v-6 Diesel option made yet? But a V-6 gas like the others. They make great motors/Trucks etc. Also have not seen any yet from others. Only v6 gas or V8/diesel, in the US, From the point of the market between the GM, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Ford yes Finally can’t wait to see the new Ranger comeback! It’s about time, think they planned it that way to redesign, cut some fat & start fresh after a few yrs to boost sales, demand.
