Sale numbers of Chevrolet’s Silverado 1500 truck are not as impressive as earlier. This is one of the biggest reasons why the carmaker works on a totally redesigned model. Our photographers have managed to catch a pre-production prototype a few days ago. Judging by the spy shots, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will receive a number of styling changes. Plus, the overall bodywork will shed some weight due to lighter materials. That’s not all, of course. The manufacturer will add the latest technologies, including the updated infotainment system and some active safety kit.
2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500: Engine Options
Let’s start under the hood. According to information we have, Chevrolet’s most popular pickup truck will rely on the existing V6 and V8 engines. Still, don’t be disappointed right away. The carmaker will likely update both units, so they will probably add at least five percent on today’s outputs.
That’s not all. The manufacturer will add two oil-burner powertrains this time. If we have the right information, the half-ton pickup will pickup truck will borrow the 2.8-liter turbodiesel from the smaller Colorado. The mill pumps out 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, which is more than enough for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado as well. Still, in case someone needs a more potent diesel truck, the manufacturer will likely offer an updated 4.5-liter V8 Duramax with the ability to develop 310 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of twist.
Some reports indicate the arrival of the high-performance 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500. This Raptor’s rival will reportedly get the improved V8, which will feature a supercharging technology. The unit should easily outmatch Ford’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo. Moreover, some reports indicate that the unit should have over 500 horsepower.
The redesigned truck will add a new gearbox. We are not so sure whether the carmaker plans to completely cancel the existing eight-speed unit or not, but we know that the all-new 10-speed will be introduced across the range.
Redesign Changes and Features
Chevrolet’s half-ton workhorse will continue to ride on the existing K2XX body-on-frame platform. However, by adding aluminum into the construction mix, the vehicle should lose some weight, which will have a positive influence on fuel economy numbers. The camouflaged truck doesn’t give up much on styling, yet we can clearly see a pair of new LED headlights and more expressive front bumper. The manufacturer will probably make some changes on grille as well, but the shoulders stay untouched for sure. The redesigned vehicle will get new wheel arches and wheels, while the tailgate should be restyled too. As we managed to catch a glimpse of the new dash, we know how it will look like. The design is more evolutionary than revolutionary, but that’s okay as long as they upgrade the infotainment system. Plus, the touchscreen will be significantly larger.
Price and Arrival
Even though it’s going to arrive totally redesigned, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will keep its price almost unchanged, which is around $30,000. The pickup truck will be introduced early next year at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.
