2019 Chevy Colorado – Review

Mid-sized pickup trucks are popular and there are plenty of models to pick from nowadays. However, you would be hard pressed to find anything as versatile and capable as Colorado. The 2019 Chevy Colorado comes with minimal changes but the addition of few special editions may give GM the edge over category rivals. Of course, the new Silverado retains the macho design style, class-leading payload and towing prowess and a choice of solid powertrains.

The exterior styling of 2019 Chevy Colorado is rugged and macho. The truck is sold in trims like Work Truck, LT, and Z71 and ZR2. The last two trims are aimed at users who prefer off-roading more than others. However, this time a few special editions are also on offer. Exterior colors include Kinetic blue metallic, Red hot, Graphite metallic, Cajun red tintcoat, Satin steel metallic, Deepwood green metallic, silver ice metallic. The trims are sold in extended and crew cab setups. The special edition package is modeled on Z71 crew and extended cab. It comes with spray-in bedliner, color-keyed grille, chrome exterior accents, 18-inch wheels and is sold in colors like Centennial Blue.

The cabin of the new Colorado is nowhere as lavish as what you find in cousin GMC Canyon Denali. However, it is quite spacious and well laid out. The base trim, however, has plenty of cheap looking plastic parts in the cabin. GM has used some noise insulation materials in its cabin and the result is quite decent. A console bin and several cubicles are also present.

2019 Chevy Colorado – Engine and Specs

The 2019 Colorado comes with enough powertrain choices and they are all pretty good as far as overall performance goes. The 2.5-liter inline-4 unit is good but performance seekers should go for the 3.6-liter V-6 engine that makes 308 HP. A 2.8-liter Duramax turbo diesel engine is also there. This four-cylinder diesel-burner offers 181 horses and pretty stunning max torque of 369 lb-ft. It is not yet clear if the all powertrains will be matched with an 8-speed automatic gearbox or will some options arrive with the already known six-speed transmission. The maximum towing capacity of the diesel model will be close to 7700 pounds.

Much like the GMC trucks, Chevy Colorado 2019 comes with decent safety features and enhanced amenities. You can equip it with 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and the MyLink infotainment offers superb ease of usage. The Teen driver mode is standard as is a set of airbags. LE trim can be laden with a forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning. It is a pity these features are not available on Z71 model at all.

The Z71 model gets off-road suspension, protective skid plates and front tow hooks. A Midnight edition is available with it which adds 17-inch wheels and blackened exterior and interior parts.

Price and availability

The exact price of 2019 Chevy Colorado is yet to be announced. But the expected base trim price is $21,000 while the ZR2 trim may start at $41,000 approx. The price covers a wide range and like the powertrain choices. The release date can be in mid to late 2018.
