Ford introduced the updated F-150 recently, so you must wonder what will be the next step from Blue Oval headquarters? Well, it’s turned out to be a quite simple question, because our spies managed to catch Ford’s next-on-the-list truck for an update. The car manufacturer decided to skip the F-250 and F-350 for the moment, because we managed to catch a prototype of the 2019 Ford F-450 Super Duty near Ford headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
2019 Ford F-450 Super Duty: Engines and Transmission
More precisely, we caught the range-topping Platinum trim while it was testing its new gearbox and updated engine (or better to say engines). It’s quite clear that the 2019 Ford F-450 Super Duty is getting the new and outstanding 10-speed transmission. The gearbox is significantly better and efficient from today’s 6-speed option, so it’s definitely coming. As for the engines, well we think that the carmaker won’t throw out the existing mills. Instead, the full-size pickup truck will likely boost both options. The gasoline 6.2-liter gas V8 will probably jump from today’s 385 hp to 400 ponies, while the 6.7-liter diesel could easily offer 1,000 pound-feet of torque. This means that the 2019 Ford F-450 Super Duty Diesel should improve its hauling, towing, and pulling.
Styling Changes and New Features
Aside it’s going to get more muscles, the amazing pickup truck will also host a few exterior changes. As you can see, the vehicle will get a new nose with a redesigned grille and new headlights. Plus, the updated vents will sit lower than now. Yes, you guessed, all the changes are borrowed from the smaller yet more popular F-150. It’s pretty much the same story in the rear as the updated 2019 F-450 will sport the same taillight treatment as the smaller sibling.
We haven’t managed to take a glimpse inside, yet it’s quite clear what going to happen. The truck will likely add an updated infotainment system with a range of better options, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The carmaker might reconsider to add a few more USB ports, as well as new upholstery.
Price and Arrival
Even though some reports indicate that the refreshed truck might come as the 2018 model, we are pretty sure that there is no such a chance. Instead, the carmaker will introduce it early next year either at 2018 Detroit auto show or a bit later in Chicago. Either way, the refreshed 2019 Ford F-450 Super Duty will cost more than the existing model, likely a bit south from $50K.
