The major carmakers are giving their models a makeover for 2019, and GM is no exception. Along with its sedans and SUVs, the noted US car manufacturer is all set to spruce up its pickup trucks. The light duty GMC Sierra 1500 model therefore is getting makeover. The test models have been spotted a few times and their pictures have appeared online too. There will be significant styling changes with some differences under the hood changes too.
2019 GMC Sierra 1500 – Design
The recent images of 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 reveal the mayor styling changes. It no longer looks like a rebadged Chevy Silverado. The new truck has a larger grille and taillight design seems newer. It is likely to be launched in the trims- base, SLT, SLE and Denali. There will be some exterior color options and a few packages. Of course, the Denali trim gets maximum number of features and it sports a distinctive look too. The models will be sold in setups like regular, crew and double cabs.
The cabin of upcoming GMC Sierra 1500 is also going to receive some design changes. The noise insulating material used ensures cabin remains treasonably quiet. GM has used triple door seals, valve exhaust system, Hydraulic body mounts and the result is good. You can also opt for the Active Noise Cancellation System. There will be some storage cubicles in cabin to store beverages and small accessories. Based on trim chosen, upholstery choices will be different.
2019 GMC Sierra 1500 – Engine Options
The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 may get same set of engines like the 2018 model but the output may be enhanced. The 4.3-liter V-6 therefore may be retained but with better outputs. The 5.3 L V8 mill will also be one of the options. However, the top Denali trim will get even more powerful 6.2-liter V-8 unit. The Sierra SLT may get a mild-hybrid version as well. The rear-wheel drive will come as standard while 4WD will be optional. Towing capacity is 12,500 pounds. GM has not said anything on fuel economy of the engines but that should get a boost.
The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 will be equipped with plenty of amenities and customization options are there in abundance. Safety wise, it gets most things in place. As always, the Denali comes loaded with maximum features by default.
The base trim gets 17-inch steel wheels, cruise control, automatic xenon headlamps, rearview camera, Bluetooth, 7-inch display unit. The Sierra Convenience package brings remote keyless entry, heated power mirrors, remote-locking tailgate, LED cargo box lighting and 110-volt AC outlet. It adds off-road suspension, all terrain tires, special wheels and underbody shield plate. Top notch Denali trim gets 20-inch wheels and adaptive suspension damper.
The GM IntelliLink infotainment setup brings in lots of convenience features and it is pleasant to use. The speed and sleekness is class leading and support for nearly all wireless technologies is there. A Bose Sound System comes with Denali trim. The safety features work as expected but sometimes they can be a little oversensitive.
Price and availability
The exact price of 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is not clear, so far. However, the base trim price may be close to $29,000. The release date can be in late 2018; however its debut should be expected at some big auto show in the next few months.
2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is a nice light duty pickup that gets enhanced styling a revised powertrain to offer better value for money. The amenities are aplenty and Denali trim comes with enough features to rival some luxury sedans. GM needs to keep the pricing reasonable to take on the rivals from stables of FCA and Ford.
