According to the latest reports, Fiat-Chrysler might develop a new pickup on its popular Jeep Wrangler platform. However, the carmaker may come up with some totally new name, which is rumored to be the 2019 Jeep Gladiator. This also means it’s going to be introduced sometime next year, probably in the first part of 2018.
2019 Jeep Gladiator: Engine Options
Although no official word is available on this pickup’s specifications, the manufacturer may use a high-strength steel chassis along with aluminum panels. This Jeep’s pickup will carry a similar powertrain as the new Wrangler. This will see 2019 Gladiator coming with a 2.8-liter inline 4 engine under its hood. Power delivery will be limited to 160 HP; however torque capacity may be around 295 lb-ft. Such a low power engine may not attract considerable market with Ford and Chevrolet selling pickups with 250 HP power, so Jeep may come up with one more powertrain option.
The second option will be a 3.6-liter V6 engine with a maximum power output capacity of around 225 HP and around 350 lb-ft of twist. Both engines may be mated to an 8-speed automatic, yet without a manual option. There is also in card an all-new 2.0-liter Hurricane engine. The mill will make the official debut under the hood of the new generation Wrangle, and since the 2019 Gladiator represents the truck sibling, it quite possible to see it with this 300 hp strong unit.
The manufacturer hasn’t released anything on model’s top speed, acceleration or EPA rating. Still, this is expected as this will be Jeep’s first line of pickups in recent years. Yet, you will see the official figures right after its release.
Exterior and Interior
Judging by the rumors, the new 2019 Jeep Gladiator will maintain Wrangler’s signature styling cues. It will feature the distinctive grille design and vertical body colored wide bars with deep slot design. The front bumper will be body colored, but it will also feature Jeep’s typical protruding design. Fog lights will be placed at the center of the bumper and will be totally rounded. Tires will be of an aluminum frame with a five-spoke design. The rubber insulation will feature bold groves. Expect these to be a touch wider than Wrangler to provide more surface grip and enhance off-road maneuvering. The spare wheel will be placed on the pickup’s side, so it will no longer be placed under the bed. The back seat will be accessible by a smaller door.
Gladiator’s interiors will have similarity with Wrangler with few expected modifications. The dashboard is likely to house instrument cluster with gauges, and its infotainment may have a touchscreen display. The 2019 Jeep Gladiator will fit two passengers comfortably, driver included. However, there is provision for the second row of seating. Its second row is quite cramped and is foldable to provide extra room. Options will be available for heating front seats and heating side mirrors.
Price and Rivals
Expect the 2019 Jeep Gladiator to come with a price tag of around $29,000. At this range, Gladiator may expect competition from the Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
I would like to buy one Jeep Gladiator concept no eta on release date
Nice vehicle I’ve always wanted a wrangler but I need a pickup truck. So this is the perfect vehicle for me. I promised I wouldn’t buy another chrysler because of mediocre quality but I would definitely consider this jeep.
