Toyota Tundra is among the most popular pickup trucks. Since its debut in 1999 it has sold in record numbers, in and outside the US market. It has also won many accolades from critics and won several coveted awards. Now, the Japanese carmaker is readying the new iteration of Tundra- which will be sold as a 2019 model. The full-size pickup truck will get a makeover for 2019 and changes will not only affect its exterior styling and amenities. A new diesel based powertrain may be used- as per the industry sources. It is only logical given the fact rivals FCA and Ford are revamping their entire truck lineup for 2019.
2019 Toyota Tundra Diesel – Design
The exterior styling of 2019 Tundra Diesel may be changed even though the modifications will not be drastic in nature. Its rugged build quality and stylish design will not be changed. However, the vehicle may get advanced Led lights and grille design may be changed. Toyota may also introduce new exterior hues for the model. The existing Tundra received a lot of changes compared to its predecessor. The existing trim levels are likely to be retained for 2019 lineup.
The cabin of the upcoming Tundra pickup may also receive some design changes- just like the exterior. So, you can expect a new dashboard, improved upholstery for seats and small item storage places inside.
Toyota has been also busy sprucing up the technology used in its vehicles for some time and the trend is likely to continue. The 2018 Tundra lineup has received a notable boost as far as safety features are concerned. The 2019 lineup may get more safety features – though, all of them may not be offered in lower trims. The trims of 2019 Tundra Diesel will get the latest version of Toyota Safety Sense P suite.
The aging Entune infotainment setup is likely to be revamped for use in the new lineup. It lags behind almost all rival offerings. Toyota should spruce up the software to offer better speed and ease of use. The 2019 Tundra will also come with several customization features. A premium sound setup and navigation are likely to be included in the top trims.
2019 Toyota Tundra Diesel – Engine
The details of the powertrain to be used in upcoming Tundra pickup are not clear. There are chances of the company using the existing model’s powertrain. So, the 5.7-liter i-Force V8 engine can be there with some modifications for better fuel economy and output. However, the rumor sites indicate the possibility of Toyota using a diesel engine in 2019 Tundra. That will probably be 5.0-liter V8 Cummins mill with its 310 horsepower and 555 lb-ft of torque. The diesel engine may be laden with a new gearbox as well.
Price and availability
The pricing of 2019 Toyota Tundra Diesel may get a slight bump compared to the 2018 lineup. Release timing may be in late 2018 since it will get some makeover. The detail of a diesel powertrain is not confirmed yet, but it will work in favor of the truck for sure.
