2017 Chevrolet Colorado: Engines, Price, Changes

Chevrolet’s Colorado is a specialized small truck. It has been categorized as a mid-sized vehicle. It is a product by Chevrolet, which has made the trucking technology more impressive by adding the driving opportunities such as Colorado model. The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado, the smart pickup truck was created by General Motors in 2004. The model was created to replace the existing models of GMC Sonoma and Chevrolet S-10. The product was named for the famous America State (Colorado). The first generation of this product was designed by three divisions including the Isuzu, North American Operation and Brazil Operations. The model was introduced with manual as well as automatic transmissions. Initially, GM introduced the rear wheel option. The four wheel drive facility was launched after the successful launching experience. Most of the models shared Cowboy style with sports suspension.

2017 Chevrolet Colorado: Engines and Trim Levels

Basic engine in majority of the models was a 2.8-liter LK5-I4 unit. However, GM always tried to keep this four door pickup truck more efficient and impressive for the drivers, so the mill might come revamped and boosted a little bit.

A special ZQ-8 model was introduced with sports suspension. It was equipped with 18 inches alloy wheels and the frame was color matched.  In 2007, the company decided to go for the new engines. It included 2.9 liters LLV-I4 as well as 3.7 liters LLR-I5 engines in the setup. Both the engines were prepared to cover the head problems present in previous models. An impressive effort was made by the Isuzu in the form of “Chevrolet Colorado i-series” in 2005. This model was updated until 2008. However, this model was stopped in 2008 because of the heavy competition with heavy duty models launched by Nissan and Toyota.

Second generation of the Colorado was introduced in 2011. This series was launched with four trim levels including the DX, LX, LT and LTZ. An edition known as Thunder Edition was the part of second generation. However there were four trim levels of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado model such as Base, WT, LT and Z-71.

The base trim level was 2WD with fuel consumption of 19 miles per gallon in city and 26 mpg on highway, while the 4 WD model uses a 2.5-liter engine. The WT trim level got a 2.5 liters fuel capacity VVT engine with I-4 DOHC. The transfer case was 2-speed while it was equipped with DuraLife Rotors (4-wheel antilock brakes). Traction and stability controls are present too. The LT trim level is offered with 2WD and 4WD. The model uses a 2.5-liter engine with I-4 DOHC technology. The average fuel consumption was 20/25 miles per gallon in city and highway, respectively. Stability control, rearview camera and traction control options are included.

The Z71 trim level was offered with similar engine specifications. However, it got a crew cabin of 128.3 inches with a gas engine of 2.5 liters. Engine was equipped with DOHC and VVT technologies. Average fuel consumption of this model was 20/27 miles per gallon in city and on highway, respectively. The 4WD version was equipped with 3.6 liters V-8 engine having DOHC and VVT. This engine has fuel consumption efficiency of 17.24 miles per gallon.

Design Changes and New Equipment

Modifications were made in all trim levels. Exterior designing and planning played an important role to make this model more popular. The new 2017 Chevrolet Colorado will come with an isolated style. There will be a light weight frame with more aluminum and carbon with steel. Company has planned to cover the exterior of upcoming model with latest features such as LED headlights, indicators and Fog Lights.

This will be outstanding because of a simplified look. Chevrolet will include all modern features required for heavy drive. Chevrolet MyLink System, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto will be added to make the interior luxury.

It is expected that new engine of the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado will be XLD-25 with 2.5 liters fuel capacity. This Turbocharged engine will be Duramax Diesel and it will get 6-speed automatic transmission. This setup will produce 180 hp and 325 lb ft torque.

The new pickup will get airbags, rearview camera, backup camera, driving memory, satellite navigation, Google Maps, Street View, traction control, stability control, parking assist, lane change assist, side exit view, anti collision alert and front camera view. High competition is expected with Nissan Navara and Toyota Hilux.


This vehicle will be launched in late 2017. There is no official update about the price of the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado. However, the base cost of the current model is around $27,000, and the 2017 version should start at the same figure.
