Judging by the latest spy shot, the 2018 GMC Sierra is getting ready to receive a complete redesign. The light-duty pickup truck is a fast-selling vehicle already, but the new generation model will be even more popular without any doubt. The car manufacturer is preparing a number of important changes, which will improve both performance and styling.
2018 GMC Sierra: Diesel and Hybrid Options
A new platform is probably the most important part of this redesign. The 2018 Sierra pickup will get the aluminum-intensive architecture that will shed plenty of pounds. Of course, this will have an enormous influence on the fuel economy numbers. Speaking of the efficiency, the next generation truck will get an oil-burner option for the first time. It’s should be a 3.5-liter turbodiesel that’s capable of producing around 250 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque.
As for the not diesel options, the 2018 GMC Sierra will most likely get a fifth-generation 4.2-liter V6, which should boost its twist. In addition, the 5.3L engine will come unchanged, while the topping Denali trim should get a 6.2L V-8 DOHC. Yes, the V8 same one that currently powers the Corvette and Camaro. Some reports indicate that the carmaker might add a mild-hybrid powertrain as well. The mill will reportedly be based on the eAssist model. The system uses a small 0.45 kWh battery that enables auto stop-start capability and regenerative braking. This will boost the current fuel economy for at least 2 mpg. All engines will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, but the car manufacturer will also offer an optional 10-speed auto gearbox.
Redesign and Changes
We managed to see several testing models of the 2018 GMC Sierra, but every one of them has been completely camouflaged. However, creases on the camo are pointing what’s going to be changed from the outside. The biggest styling changed will happen in the front as always. The wrapped hood appears to be a lot more aggressive from today’s, while the complete front fascia seems to be lowered. Both the grille and headlights are completely redesigned. On the other hand, the front bumper sports bigger air intakes. We are not a hundred percent sure, yet the new generation Sierra seems to have a few additional inches between the wheels.
The 2018 GMC Sierra will likely become more rugged from the outside, but inside, the truck is getting a sleeker treatment without any doubt. The carmaker will not just add new technologies and better infotainment system, but also more high-quality materials and better seats. Of course, the Denali trim level will stay the best possible option.
Price and Arrival
GMC hasn’t announced any pricing information yet, but the 2018 Sierra must become a little bit expensive truck from its predecessor. Still, don’t expect anything too drastic. No, the base price will most likely jump for around $500. The official debut isn’t scheduled yet. However, we expect to see the amazing pickup at the 2018 Detroit auto show.
